Fitings: differences and application

When I needed to connect the pipes, I had to buy fittings in the store – special compounds that allow you to execute branching, turning or building up two elements. Various metals (copper, steel, cast iron, bronze) and polymers (polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride) serve as material for them.

The reliability of the connection at the place of fastening of the fitting directly depends on the method of its installation on the pipe. The most common option is carving. It is applied to the inside of the fitting and on the outer end of the pipe. It remains only to screw the pipe into the fitting (you can use a gas key) to get a high -quality connection. In the role of additional isolation (for sealing), I used the Tangit thread, wound on the pipe thread before it is screwed into fitting.

The method of capillary soldering allows you to combine metal pipes using solder. I soldered a small wire of tin or copper under the internal thread of the fitting, and covered the thread on the pipe with a flux. After screwing, the connection was heated by the burner to a temperature at which the solder melts and occurs in the cracks along the thread; cooing, such a connection has become very durable.

Some fittings allow you to combine pipes of various diameters using a special ring and a nut clicking on it, and are called compression (or crimping). However, to seal the junction of the pipes, I additionally used the seal.

Press-fings are designed for a non-graceful connection of two plastic pipes. With the help of a pressing sleeve, the fitting is squeezed around the end part of the pipe.

Self-fixing copper fittings have several internal rings that are pressed into each other using a shooter and are fixed in this position thanks to the cloves available on one of them. Such a connection can be disassembled using the same tool.

Two plastic pipes can be interconnected using polypropylene fittings by welding. In this case, a special welding machine should be heated by the inside of the fitting and the outer part of the pipe, and then quickly combine them. After a few minutes, the connection will cool and turn into a monolithic site.
